FATHER, GIVE ME YOUR HEART:

Have you ever been in a time of prayer and asked God to fill your heart with what is on His heart? I have, and do, ask Him to do this on a regular basis. Over the years I have found that there are 're-occuring themes' that He floods my heart with. One of those is the issue of His love for those in need of food, clothing and the practical of life. He hears their cries day and night. There are so many who go to bed hungry every night while so many of us go to bed over-fed. We can never get wearied by the reality of their need and the responsibility that our 'blessing' puts on us to respond.

As wonderful as it is to have God fill your heart with His, you don't need to have this encounter in order to know the cries of the needy in the earth reach Him and are on His radar, big time. it is all over the Word of God.

Check this out:

  • a super quick search of the word "poor" in the NKJV reveals God speaking to issues surrounding the poor 194 times throughout the word....if you added words like needy, hungry, naked, orphan, widow and the like it would explode even more.

Here are a few verses that have impacted me (there are tons more that could be cited).

___

Psalm 72 4-14

"4He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy...He will deliver the needy when he cries, The poor also, and him who has no helper. 13He will spare the poor and needy, And will save the souls of the needy. 14He will redeem their life from oppression and violence; And precious shall be their blood in His sight." (This one can obviously be applied to a lot more than orphans and hunger but human trafficking and any kind of exploitation of the poor, vulnerable and voiceless as well. It is such an amazing scripture about who God is!)

Psalm 82:3 - Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4Deliver the poor and needy.

Psalm 113:7 - He raises the poor out of the dust, And lifts the needy out of the ash heap

Proverbs 14:31 - He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

Proverbs 31:9 - Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

These are all so powerful. God's word is powerful (full stop). No matter how busy, focused, financially challenged (or whatever) we get, it is so important that we do not forget the cries of the needy - God doesn't. Furthermore, it is not enough simply not to forget, we also need to respond. What is in your hand? Sow it in order to be the answer to someone's prayers today. If you do not already partner with a ministry that is providing for orphans, widows and needy communities I encourage you to do so. This is how it happens! We all do our part. You or I might not be able to be in some of the world's neediest places ourself right now (bless you if you are!) but we can support those who are - through our finances and our prayers.

___

I get nothing for saying this - other than the pleasure of knowing that this is one of my small ways of responding to a burden that I know is pulsating in the heart of God.

___

Today, let's be the answers to an orphan's prayers.

WHAT ABOUT CANADA?: That is a question I often ask too. The truth, however, is that though there are indeed many needy people in Canada the poor in our nation are actually pretty rich in comparison to the average person in many 3rd world nations. I realized this first hand when I returned from West Africa to be confronted with the reality that much (not all, but much) of the poverty here is because of social disease, not lack. We must continue to reach out within our borders where we can but we also must lift our eyes beyond. How bout this: let's do both! As every community is different, I encourage you to look around in yours for who is serving the elderly, homeless, single parents and the like. Let's get out there and be a part of seeing their prayers answered as well.

___

Lastly, I want to say that I believe there is a category of 'orphans' in Canada that we must begin to acknowledge and reach out to like never before. I believe the future of our nation largely depends on it. They are the unwanted unborn.

In God's eyes, I believe they are orphans. I am so passionate about this that I have an entire page on this site committed to this issue. Click here to go there now....yes, let's "go there."

OUTLETS FOR MERCY ACTION

ART FOR MERCY:

This is a little thing, but, in life little things to us can be massive to the ones on the receiving end. Because of this I wanted to list my paintings related to children at risk directly and offer them for sale with the revenue being donated to children at risk.

When you purchase a print of a painting from this section 100% of the revenue of this painting sale will be donated to work with children at risk.

This is a painting I did of a little boy that my friend Malina took during her work with exploited children in Thalland (Extreme Prophetic Missions). I painted it in worship at Women on the Frontlines and people bidded so generously on it that we were able to raise thousands of dollars for a half way house for children being brought out of the sex trade in Thailand. What a privilege. The Body of Christ is awesome.

This one is special. Heidi Baker asked me to paint it for Patricia King at the Women on the Frontlines conference and we gave it to Patricia that weekend to bless her.

Again, this is a painting with a photo that my friend Malina took during her work with exploited children in Thalland (Extreme Prophetic Missions).

This is a painting I did of Saye, the first Orphan I had the privilege of encountering in Liberia during my time as a missionary there. Join me in sending some practical love to children like Saye.

"SHOUT OUT" FOR GROUPS DOING AMAZING WORK WITH ORPHANS AND OTHER CHILDREN AT RISK

A Note From Faytene about Hope for the Nations (Liberia): In 2000-2001 I had the honour of working with underprivileged children and families in Liberia with Hope for the Nations. It was a real pioneering mission and I loved every minute of it (in spite of the harsh social realities all around). The people are treasures. Several of the things I put my hand to and began during that time are still going today! For this I am so thankful, in spite of civil war breaking out again in 2002 the locals have done an amazing job at continuing the work. If you would like to be a part of the answer for Liberia's struggles click on the link below. I also encourage you to check out Hope for the Nations as a ministry. They are amazing.

A Note From Faytene about Compassion Canada: I have always loved Compassion Canada. If you do not sponsor a child consider them! What I love about Compassion is that they are totally church based and full of the love of Jesus from what I have seen.

Click here to find out more about sponsoring a child through Compassion Canada.

Be A Hero: We have also discovered another amazing humanitarian aid group: Be A Hero. They are doing great work all over the world. I encourage you to check out their ministry as well. Find them at www.beahero.org.
